LPPC Welcomes EPA’s Decision To Reconsider The Power Plant CO2 Rule

The Large Public Power Council (LPPC), which represents 29 of the largest not-for-profit public power utilities in the U.S., welcomes the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) decision to reconsider the Power Plant CO2 Rule.
“LPPC members operate some of the cleanest energy portfolios in the country, but building new energy infrastructure is now critical with electricity demand surging after years of flat growth,” said Tom Falcone, LPPC President. “The EPA’s decision to reconsider the Power Plant CO₂ Rule is a step in the right direction, and we urge Washington to make this a top priority. A reliable grid isn’t just about keeping the lights on – it’s the foundation for economic growth.”
“As the EPA reviews the rule, LPPC urges the agency to establish a workable, durable framework that prioritizes reliability while enabling the industry to meet rising demand. Specifically, any framework should permit the most efficient plants without raising costs, address supply chain constraints, and prevent premature coal plant retirements. LPPC looks forward to working with the EPA as revisions are considered.”
