LPPC Discusses Pathways to Decarbonization at USEA’s 2023 State of the Energy Industry Forum
Regional differences are driving decarbonization strategies at LPPC member utilities. This was the major takeaway of LPPC President John Di Stasio’s address at USEA’s 19th Annual State of the Energy Industry Forum at the National Press Club in Washington, DC.
While there are high-level trends pushing the electric sector’s pathway to decarbonization, regional differences in the natural and built environment as well as state and local policy are influencing the decisions made by electric utilities across the country.
For example, LPPC members in the Northwest have benefitted from hydropower and enjoyed low to no carbon generation for decades. Wind has played a significant role in lowering the carbon emissions of utilities in Oklahoma and the Midwest, and we’ve witnessed extraordinary growth in solar in Arizona, Texas, and Florida.
